Learn Japanese as a foreign language rather than as the native language

Develop the ability to engage with Japanese objectively as a foreign language. For example, can you explain the difference between using “wa” and "ga"? In recent years, the number of foreign tourists and workers has increased, and Japan is becoming increasingly globalized. There is a growing need in many fields for people who are able to speak Japanese that is easy for foreigners to understand, and who can disseminate Japanese culture. At the Department of Japanese Studies, you will acquire the ability to communicate about Japanese culture by understanding its structure and characteristics, and you will understand the interplay of language and culture, from traditional Japanese culture to the modern day.
