    Living through Art

    ■ Western Painting Major
Focusing on oil painting and printmaking, students study not only traditional painting but also contemporary artistic expressions. Through exposure to various media such as mixed media, video, and installation art, they develop essential skills in observation, depiction, expression, and art theory.

    ■ Japanese Painting Major
While enhancing their skills in depiction and composition, students master traditional materials and tools such as washi paper, mineral pigments, brushes, and gold leaf. With respect for tradition, the major encourages the pursuit of Japanese painting rooted in modern sensibilities and creative freedom.

    ■ Sculpture and 3D Art Major
Students explore new forms of expression using a variety of materials, including clay, wood, stone, and metal, as well as unconventional mediums such as fiber (paper and textile materials). In a practical environment that reflects their own sensibilities, they cultivate professional techniques and expressive skills.

    ■ Art Education Major
This major equips future art teachers with knowledge in art theory, art education theory, and psychology. Students also acquire skills in a wide range of fields, including painting, sculpture, crafts, design, and media arts. Based on the founding spirit of "nurturing art teachers," the program produces educators with comprehensive practical skills.

    ■ International Art and Culture Major
Over four years, students study art from both past and present, across East and West, through various perspectives such as society, philosophy, history, and visual culture in seminar-based learning. Bilingual courses enhance English communication skills, while classes on multicultural understanding and overseas internships prepare students for careers on the international stage.

Become a creator who shapes the future

    ■ Visual Design Major
Through mastery of various media and expressive techniques, students explore the future of visual communication for the next generation.

    ■ Product Design Major
Over four years, students enhance their ability to "think" creatively, "make" technically, and "express" effectively. They develop flexible design skills and planning abilities, with the program aiming to cultivate designers and planners who are truly needed by society, by honing each student's individual sensitivities and talents.

    ■ Environmental Design Major
From interiors, lighting, and window displays to gardens, public spaces, and architecture, both the human-made spaces and the nature that surrounds them are part of the "environment." By carefully examining the relationships between humans and spaces, spaces and nature, and nature and humans, students develop the ability to explore the interconnected elements of the environment.

    ■ Crafts Major
Beginning with exposure to five materials—dyeing, weaving, embroidery, ceramics, and glass—students learn techniques and knowledge rooted in tradition while acquiring the ability to create freely and originally. This process strengthens their capacity to turn diverse ideas into tangible forms.

The ability to transcend conventional ideas and create new value

    ■ Media Expression Field
In areas such as animation, character design, games, robotics, VR, web design, advertising design, and video production, students are exposed to diverse media, values, and cultures. They learn how to expand their ideas and imagination to new horizons and turn them into innovative expressions that have never been seen before.

    ■ Healing Expression Field
Through illustration, character design, picture books, plush toy design, relational design, and healing art as environmental art, students create art and design that help people live better lives. This field aims to nurture individuals who can carefully deliver their creations to society and the people within it.

    ■ Fashion Expression Field
Students explore clothing design from the material stage, "thinking and creating with their hands," while also using digital technologies to develop unique expressive abilities. This field nurtures individuals capable of creating new value through fashion.

    ■ Space Expression Field
What does the experience of space mean to people? Starting from this question, students explore the possibilities of space and learn to propose new experiences and richness to society.

    ■ Creative Production Expression Field
Whether in art, music, theater, or video, outstanding creations have the power to bring happiness to people, regardless of genre. Creating a space where such works can be experienced is also about generating happiness around the world. What’s essential is to develop methods to expand the possibilities of expression using intellect, sensitivity, and free thinking. This field nurtures producers, curators, facilitators, and versatile creators who foster humor that turns struggles and conflicts into joy, supporting the spaces where creativity is born.

Four years aimed at becoming a "co-creative leader" who creates new value together with people from diverse fields

To create new value, it is essential to have individuals who possess a "co-creative leadership" approach, where they not only engage in a process of self-questioning by posing their own inquiries and seeking answers but also involve diverse others in the process, collaboratively conceptualizing and growing together to achieve their goals. Our department nurtures such individuals, who are needed now and in the future.

Two years of self-discovery and mastering specialization

A common curriculum for art and design is offered, and in the first semester of the first year, students select four subjects from 13 practical courses to build a solid foundation. From the second semester of the first year, they split into the "Art Course" and "Design Course" to deepen their specialization.

    ■ Art Course
Students acquire foundational knowledge and skills in various fields of art, such as oil painting, Japanese painting, printmaking, and sculpture. They develop a broad and comprehensive expressive ability, ranging from academic forms of expression like painting to contemporary works such as installations. After graduation, students are prepared to succeed in a wide range of careers, including further study, becoming artists, manga creators, teachers, or game developers.

    ■ Design Course
Students can learn their desired form of design from four genres. "Graphic" focuses on visual communication through print media. "Media" covers a wide range of media expressions, including video and animation. "Textile" involves learning dyeing and weaving techniques to propose ideas for enriching daily life. "Product" teaches the creation of goods that support everyday living, such as interior goods and lighting. Students cultivate specialized skills and expressive abilities while valuing individuality and creativity, preparing them to thrive as creators in society.
