    Studying Economics from multiple perspectives

    Curriculum Content:

Whilst learning the perspectives and methods to approach economics, we will also incorporate the approaches of neighbouring fields to analyse and clarify the serious and complicated problems that our society is currently facing - where and how current social issue lie, what the causes of these issues are and how we can apply our knowledge to find a solution for them.

    Characteristics of the Curriculum
    1. Learning methods of sustainability through two programs:
In order to locate and solve the problems that lie in the local community, we must also learn how to widen our perspective and analyse and compare the domestic and overseas issues. We will consider the contemporary social issues that we currently face from two different perspectives - the local and global economic standpoints.

    2. Practically considering social issues with a "Bug's Eye"
In order to deepen the knowledge of Economics and improve the application skill for it, we must not only analyse the situation using conventional economic theories but also face the problems fist hand, and it is important that the collected data is analysed with a "Bug's Eye." Whilst collaborating with others with this viewpoint in mind, we will be able to face the social issues with an objective and diversified eye based on our analysis of the data collected.

Understanding the practices of Politics from various angles

    Curriculum Content:
Politics means making a group decision in order to deal with matters that the population face and this decision can be used as a tool and ultimately be enforced. However there can be multiple issues with this. Whether poverty has been considered, how to deal with energy and environmental issues, what relationships to build with other countries, whether a sort of world government should be established; and most of all how these matters are decided in the first place, how it should be carried out, and who should be the leading this whole idea of "Politics." At the Department of Political Science, in order to understand these practices from various angles, we not only need to learn the politics, historical developments, current affairs and the history of local and multinational relationships, but to teach how the concept of power, freedom and equality were interpreted and how it affected those events.

    Characteristics of the Curriculum
・Developing a global perspective and creativity using familiar issues as a stepping stone
emphasises on seminars (exercise classes) that are centred around educating students in small groups. At the initial seminar of the first year, students will learn a wide range of issues that extend from local communities, governments up to a global scale. Then in the second year students will choose a course based on their specific field of interest and will further research the subject. Please feel free to start with any subject or issues that is the most appealing and interesting. With a small amount of research, it will become apparent that the problem occurs elsewhere and are linked to other matters in various shapes and forms. With these findings, students will be able to further examine the original problem from different perspectives. By repeatedly discovering problems and furthering the knowledge of the subject, the students will gain specific knowledge and the ability to understand the society from a broader perspective. Once the students have experienced this, it will truly mean that they have the ability to view happenings from a global perspective and come up with solutions with the developed imagination skills.
